Summary

An enchanting novel about fate, second chances, and hope, lost and found, by the Amazon Charts bestselling author of The Last of the Moon Girls

Soline Roussel is well schooled in the business of happy endings。 For generations her family has kept an exclusive bridal salon in Paris, where magic is worked with needles and thread。 It’s said that the bride who wears a Roussel gown is guaranteed a lifetime of joy。 But devastating losses during World War II leave Soline’s world and heart in ruins and her faith in love shaken。 She boxes up her memories, stowing them away, along with her broken dreams, determined to forget。

Decades later, while coping with her own tragic loss, aspiring gallery owner Rory Grant leases Soline’s old property and discovers a box containing letters and a vintage wedding dress, never worn。 When Rory returns the mementos, an unlikely friendship develops, and eerie parallels in Rory’s and Soline’s lives begin to surface。 It’s clear that they were destined to meet—and that Rory may hold the key to righting a forty-year wrong and opening the door to shared healing and, perhaps, a little magic。

“After twenty-three years, I think it’s time we admit we just don’t like each other very much。”This line is a turning point in the story and happens at just about the 70% mark。 Daughter, Rory, has finally stood up to her mother, Camilla。 It’s been a long time coming and desperately needed。 Boy, did this resonate with me! I was quite a few years older, but said words very much like those to my mother; they changed my life。“The Keeper of Happy Endings” is all about mothers, daughters and the hard changes in life。 Told from two POV’s that are clearly marked at the beginning of each chapter, the story also bounces around between multiple timelines。 These are well marked also but less smooth on the transitions; there’s too many for my liking。 While info dumps aren’t great fun, neither are lots of short hops to fill in the story。Soline and Anson’s story begins in France during WW2。 After Nazi infiltration, Soline escapes to the USA and Anson is presumed dead。 His father is an evil puppet master。 Rory and Hux meet stateside, he goes off to the S。 Sudan to serve with Doctors w/o Borders and is captured。 Her mother is a “Mommy Dearest” contender。 These two women meet in true fiction happenstance and their lives are a tangle of tragedy and hope with a touch of magic。Magic isn’t really an huge element in the story in the fantasy or fantastical way。 Think intuition and you’ll have more of the influence from that element。 This is a complicated plot with complex relationships, some of which I figured out early on and others were a nice surprise。Author, Barbara Davis, delivered a family saga that’s free from graphic violence, sexual content and has only 2-3 very soft expletives。 It’s so refreshing to find authors who can write well without assaulting my senses in the process。 For those romance fans, the proverbial HEA is alive and well。This is a solid story with a complicated plot that will require your attention。 It’s well written and has a little something for everyone: history, family intrigue, mystery, strained relationships, WW2, love and reconciliation。 Something in that list should appeal to you, it’s “The Keeper of Happy Endings”, after all📚 。。。more

A Unique Friendship and Second ChancesI read another book by this author that I enjoyed thoroughly, The Last of the Moon Girls, that I found incredibly well written (both character and plot) and immersive。 I was so pleased when one of my favorite book review sites offered this book。 The author did not disappoint the second time around。 She pulled me in from the beginning with the deft way she weaved in details from all the senses, building emotion so easily in Soline's first scene (one heroine o A Unique Friendship and Second ChancesI read another book by this author that I enjoyed thoroughly, The Last of the Moon Girls, that I found incredibly well written (both character and plot) and immersive。 I was so pleased when one of my favorite book review sites offered this book。 The author did not disappoint the second time around。 She pulled me in from the beginning with the deft way she weaved in details from all the senses, building emotion so easily in Soline's first scene (one heroine of this novel)。 The author established clear, distinct voices for the two principal women。 The word pictures created show us the characters and their worlds。 I found the story absolutely riveting with its clear, deep characterization—which I love when it is well done, as it is here! The book is dual timeline most of the way, from WWII to the 1980s, but it never gets confusing (as often happens with dual-timeline books)。 The unique friendship forged by these two strong women was simply a delight to read。 Frankly, I didn’t want the story to end。 Highly recommended。I received a free copy of this book (and also purchased it through First Reads), but that did not affect my review。My book blog: https://www。readingfanaticreviews。com 。。。more

Le magie! This was a good book with a captivating storyline that had me day reading。 Some history, some human struggles, and a touch of magic lead you through the present as it meets and intertwines with the past。 The story is told by two narrators, Soline and Rory, and it flows nicely through Paris and Boston。 I enjoyed the descriptions of the places and could easily picture the settings。 And the fashion and the dresses! I could practically feel the fabric running through my fingers。 I received Le magie! Blend Of Historical And Women's Fiction That Leaves The Room Dusty Through Its Final Quarter。 This was an excellent blend of historical fiction on one end and a "current" (mid-80s) timeline women's fiction tale on the other。 Not quite an either/ or thing, but both play well with each other (and most of the historical stuff is done by the 2/3 point or so)。 Just be prepared for a VERY dusty read through the back quarter of the book, where Davis does an excellent job of revealing things but then le Blend Of Historical And Women's Fiction That Leaves The Room Dusty Through Its Final Quarter。 This was an excellent blend of historical fiction on one end and a "current" (mid-80s) timeline women's fiction tale on the other。 Not quite an either/ or thing, but both play well with each other (and most of the historical stuff is done by the 2/3 point or so)。 Just be prepared for a VERY dusty read through the back quarter of the book, where Davis does an excellent job of revealing things but then letting them play out in a more natural setting and timeframe than other authors may have done。 The book starts off with a lot of The Giver type vibes before becoming something so much more than that work ever intended to be - but the fact that it even feels similar to that award winning book speaks to just how well Davis crafts her story here。 Very much recommended。 。。。more

Life has a way of connecting those we need at the time needed and this is that journey! "We're kindred spirits, you and I。 Strangers who share a common past。"The characters are people I genuinely would love to be friends with, young and old, each with a story that held my heart captive。There is heartbreak, family, joy, and a bit of "magick" while told in a dual timeline from 1939 (World War II) to 1985。I dare anyone to not adore this book! It is magical! 。。。more
